Yeah, I wondered how long it would last.

Apparently some made BIG BUCKS from online gambling........

Of course it is only affecting the US market at present, so I am not sure how my friends in Europe are affected by this......

I tend to agree. not 100%, thinking it might resurface, but so many tax dollars lost - probably not.

I am not convinced it is the end just yet - once things have died down a bit you will see the re-emergence of the us affiliate networks and it will all start back off again - the legislation is just protectionism from the US authorities.

Ok most of you guys that think gambling is dead don't realize it's actually an opportunity.. You have a million U.S. players out there who just got booted off partypoker and many other sites. You also have gambling sites that still accept U.S. players like Full Tilt Poker. The players that got the boot are going to begin looking for new sites to play at that still allow online gambling.

i thought part of the issue to control this was that credit card companies
couldn't process payment for fear of being fined or something

meaning that most poker sites now had issues to process payment/payouts

As far as I know Full Tilt still allows Visa and Mastercard. As for the others I haven't been keeping up since I've kind of concentrated all my efforts towards Full Tilt.

This applies to US banks only - not european - in addition I think mastercard have stopped accepting transactions on the MCC (merchant category code) relating to casino and gaming - they will not process the transactions - but again US only and finally Citibank do not / did not allow gambling transactions.

This quite clearly affects players based in the US but not in the rest of the world providing they are not routing their credit card transactions through a US bank / Credit card company.

This would also affect transactions to the likes of neteller etc as they fall under the same MCC as casinos.

However in the UK most banks now treat transactions for gaming as an Over The Counter transaction and thereofre they attract an immediate and higher interest rate  - with a handling fee as well.

Not withstanding this I still think the gaming companies will survive - maybe there will be a lot of consolidation but ultimately it will go on.

There are still some US networks touting for business - who have quite clearly found a way round the regulations.

I can say that online gambling has never died. Yes there is a lot of affiliate programs stoped accepting US players but a lot of affiliate programs continue accepting US players. I don't know that well-known affiliate programs were closed.
