Is anyone attending this event?  I was able to make it and wanted to know if anyone else is here.  Maybe we can meet up in person and share some ideas?

Best wishes,

Benjamin

Hi Irish,

Here is my opinion of SES NY, as it pertains to usefulness for affiliates:

Not Extremely Useful

There were a few companies there representing affiliate programs (Joe Bucks, AzoogleAds, Copeac, and maybe just 1 or 2 more that I don't remember).

The conference had a lot of PPC emphasis, so in that respect, it could have been useful for affiliates, but I was a bit more focused on the organic side, so I can't comment greatly on the PPC info available.  There were a lot of companies there selling their PPC management services and tools to help you manage PPC campaigns.  There were also a lot of companies there wanting to help with SEO.

Basically, it was a great show if you had a business and wanted to find a way to improve your online presence (ie. find someone to do PPC & SEO for your company).  It was not a great show for an individual wanting to improve their affiliate business (at least I didn't find it too useful).

Fortunately, I was sent there by my employer, so it didn't cost me too much to go.  If I would have paid for it, I would have been much more disappointed.  Not that it was a bad show, it just wasn't the right show for me at this stage of my affiliate career.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Benjamin

Thanks for sharing that. So I guess it is more useful for affiliates to go to specialized affiliate events?

I think I would agree with that conclusion.  I listened to ShoeMoney's latest podcast and he said that the Affiliate Summit conventions were much more beneficial and there was more of "what really works" shared there.  He said he found the SES conferences to be more formal and everyone is scared to mention they dabble in the gray areas or reveal what really works vs. what the search engines want to work.

I definitely will attend an Affiliate Summit convention over an SES convention in the future.

Best of luck!
