Hi all

I found the forum through Benjamin's adventure (*wave* Benjamin Smiley and thought I'd share my experience.

I got interested with SEO about a month ago and as an experiment I created a site

Site is  about how to find a Nintendo Wii as it turned out it is rather hot topic this Christmas season. Thanks to SEO I rank good and get about 500 unique visitors from google searching for "wii finder". So a decent and 100% targeted audience. As I know nothing about affiliate marketing, and I can not run adsense ads (the site does not support javascript) I decided to experiment with being an Ebay affiliate through CJ so I modified the page two days ago to the one you can see now.

So yesterday I got 1,133 impressions 162 clicks and 3 leads resulting in $25 comission according.

Can someone explain me what those numbers mean, and what can I do to improve my site, and where to go from now? You know, your typical newbie questions I guess.

Cheers to all

Hey freedriver,  Nice looking site.

The numbers: (I assume these are from the CJ interface)

1,133 impressions = How many visitors came to your site.  With some bots you get impression data, so check your server stats package to find the actual number of people that visited.

162 clicks = The number of times one of your links was clicked.

3 leads = What you are getting paid to produce.  Thats actually not so shabby either.  162 divided by 3 =  54.  So for every 55 (or so) clicks you'll make some cash.  I know of a lot of programs that only run about a 1% conversion (1 sale for every 100 clicks).

resulting in $25 comission = Cool.

What else can you do?  Well, join the Amazon program and put up some links to books relative to your site.  They also sell products on Amazon, so you could make a few bucks there.

You can look around the electronics merchants and try to find one that converts wii products at a reasonable rate.  If you find more than one, go with the one that has the best record.

My brain just took a time-out, so that's it for now.

Thanks for clearing up things for me Dink. Yesterday I made no sales and had 633 impressions with only 5 clicks. I wonder why the drop.

Where would you suggest me to look for merchants?

Have you looked in the other affiliate networks (besides CJ)? Shareasale and Linkshare would be good places to start.

Shareasales stats are really annoying, but it has one good feature I haven't seen it anywhere else. You can see the visitors referrer url for each individual sale. That's very useful at least if you send the visitors direct to the merchant from the SE's.

It looks good... It will be interesting to see how your conversion will be affected.
How have your traffic and conversion been the last couple of days since your first post?

Well the program is up 5 days. Two of those I had zero sales and three days 1-2 leads and 1-2 sales each. So total made about $60. I am eager to see what these changes will do. In those five days I had about 3500 unique visitors. So that it 1.7 cents per visitor. If I count that an adwords click would cost 10 cents then I am still below running it profitably with PPC.

Can someone give me normal expected numbers for clicks/impressions and sales/clicks for this type of business so that I can compare?

First off, I like the site, it looks nice.

If I read your initial post right, it looks like the sales you've made so far have been through organic traffic, which makes it pretty hard to say what kind of conversions you'd be looking at if you started doing PPC. Generally I see much higher conversion percentages with PPC traffic as the people are generally in more of a buying mood since they went out of their way to click on an ad. Organic traffic seems to usually be in a surfing mood and tends to convert less as a result.

I would suggest that you grab a $100 Yahoo Search Marketing coupon and go to town testing.

Thanks for a great tip. I signed up for Yahoo Search Marketing with $100 promo code.

I never created ads before and I came up with these three

 Order a Wii Now
Zero wait time, we have Nintendo
 Wii in stock.
 wiifinder.weebly.com

 Buy a Wii
 Best deals on Nintendo Wii.
 wiifinder.weebly.com

 Easy Wii Finder
 Nintendo Wii in stock.

hey freediver,

i actually have seen you around some other forums, you turned me on to weebly.com, which is an awesome tool for mkaing landing pages
i started a blog about weebly at

anyway, i was wondering if there were any CPA "give me your email address to win a free nintendo wii" from azoogle or something, i think that would fit well on your site without being junky or spammy...

[EDIT: though it can be difficult to add some of those offers to weebly, depending on how they are constructed]
