single optin v. double optin

Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you had a preference for single or double opt in.
I know a few of the forums suggest only double opt in for protection from spam complaints but that reduces the number of subscribers.
Any opinions on this.

ok i would say if yar a nuby then use doble optin if your spending cash on generating lists
on the other hand if you are able to set up an auto responer well on your server and do some reading on bypasing spam filters then do that with out dob opt in but as i say if your spending money on generating your list then use a 3rd party service with doble opt in there are som free ones about
