Yet another Newbie Journal

Hi, I'm Rick, I have been reading Benjamin_Maker's journal for some time. After a month of readings, I think that I should start my hands on affiliate marketing.

Here are what have I obtained in 1 month of research :
1) Basic SEO such as writing proper metatag, where to build inbound link etc. I'm not very sure whether what I know is true, so hope that someone will correct me in the future.

2) $500 from writing articles, posting in forum and help someone to input data in website.

3) My own domain - askricktoday.com with a few subdomain minisites which are generating me about $1 a day.

4) 2 proxy sites

Here are my plans :
1) I will research on what niche I would like to involve in.

2) I will do keyword research on the product using Google Keyword Tool and Benjamin_Maker's Gtrend made Easy tool.

3) I will obtain a good domain for the site

4) I will build a landing page with cloaked affiliate link

5) I will register an aweber account to create my own list

6) I will buy tons of $50 Google Adwords account from DP which is now selling for about $5 - $6 per account.

Here are some of my questions :
- should I try physical product (CJ) or informational product (CB) ?
- if I'm selling physical product, then will it be weird using landing pages like informational product, you know those ebook sales copy. What kind of landing page should I use for physical product? Do you have any example?

My progress will be a bit slow because I'm doing this as part time currently. Hope that I will get support from everyone.

I dont get #2.  The $500 is something you earned?

Both physical and digital products sell online.  Which one you choose is entirely your preference,
nothing more, imo.

My personal preference would be digital, the mile long sales page for ebook.  This is mostly
cuz I think there is a certain type of person or personality that buys from those pages and I
think I would have a better chance of targetting them.  I don't know much about ppl that
buy physical shit, (except pills).

Why do you ask what kind of landing page you need for physical, but you don't ask that
for digital? 

1.  find a product
2.  get traffic
3. forward traffic to merchant.

The merchants have spent lots of time and money to optimize their site for sales, I would
trust them until I became better than them at their own game.

Yes. $500 is something that I earned in December from writing article, posting in forum, helping people to input data into website.

This is because I can find many landing page for digital products online.


Day 2 :
I have been researching on what kind of products I want to sell. Actually I'm interested in weigh loss products too. However, after reading Benjamin_Maker's thread, I decided not to touch that niche before I have gained some knowledge. I'm stuck here because I'm thinking of whether I should sell physical or digital product.

What comes in my mind is people can get physical product in their town, but they will not be able to get digital product, so they will need to buy online. I'm trying to figure out the mentality of the people what attracts them to buy physical product online.

Anyway I have some niche in my mind now :
For physical product :
- High Definition Television
1 question in my mind is, there are so many HDTV, so should I just promote 1, or I should make a blog on HDTV reviews and comparison? One reason I chose is because I have some mini sites that are reviewing HDTV, there will be about 30uniques a day, so I think I can send some traffic to my blog or what so ever.



For digital product :
- How To Earn Money online ebook
1 Reason is because I can easily create an opt-in list, many people are willing to give their emails to get the free report.
- Wii or PSP game download ( I found some in CB )
- World of Warcraft ebook


Now I'm working on product research and I will decide which niche to choose later.

After researching, I will choose to work on World Of Worldcraft guide. The reasons are :
1) many users searching for the guide everyday
2) there must be many new players everyday, so there is demand

My plan now :
- Register a domain.
- Research for keyword for onpage SEO
- create a landing page with the KW, with teasing offer such as free report and mod to create an opt-in list. Then I will slowly push the ebook to the players. I will be able to send diferent ebook targeting different people because there are many races in WOW.

Now, I'm making the landing page and researching on KW. I have found 100 KW, will try to find more later.
Here are some of my questions, I have seen people suggesting using tool to generate typos and other phrases. However, if I'm going to run ppc campaign only on "exact phrase", then it there still a necessary to generate such typos? If so, does it mean that I will need to create more than 100 landing pages?

I am quite taken in by the simplicity of the site and the way it was organised. You might like to explore making money online with website designing.

My background was graphic designer, however I'm not going to make the landing page very very complex because from what I have seen, most of them are very simple with a normal header graphic and some simple picture in the landing page. I'm a bit busy with my day job now, so I will update later.
