I asked CJ about getting a feed and they want $200 for it.

Anybody else got this and what, exactly, do you get for $200?

I would ask CJ but they take 3 days to respond and they're clueless.

I think I'm going to try a different affiliate marketplace soon.

Yeah.  I have the datafeed.

What do you get?  One, or more, http. csv or xml files for each merchant that has a feed at CJ.  You must join the program of the merchant to get their feed.  You can get the feed by ftp, html, or have CJ push it to your server.

If you want to publish a site that has multiple items, the feed is great.  You can ask CJ to configure the schema as you would like to have it.

I have a couple of catalog sites that use the feeds to good effect.

So if a store has a feed, for instance, you get all their products.

Do they give you affiliate links that will land on each product?

One of the things I hate about CJ (and I'm sure it's true with other programs) is that their landing pages can't be tailored. In other words, if I want to sell product X only a few of the bigger programs (buy.com, ebay, etc.) will let me send the people right to a page about product X.

So with the feed, is this problem solved?

Also, is there a way to see which merchants offer a feed before I pay the $200? I'd like to get an idea of what will be included.

Sorry for the questions, but thanks for all the answers!

That's what we're here for.

You get all the products they have in the feed.  Some merchants don't put all of their merch in the feed.

All of the ones I deal with do.  Sometimes it lands on the category page where it is shown.

Yes.

Not all in one place.  As far as I know, that is.  You have to look at each merchant that you are interested in to see if they offer the 'product catalog'.

You might pose that question to CJ at their AAQ button (help).

When I got the feed I had two catalog sites I wanted to build.  I knew the products I wanted to sell, so I searched the 'get links' section for the general category that the products were in.  Then I looked at each merchant to see if they had a feed.  I applied to the merchants, then had CJ set up the datafeed in the way that I wanted it.

Hey Presto!  I had a feed for six merchants with something like 200k products.  All buy links came precoded in the feed.  A little preg replace on the MySql and I had a site up and going.

If you decide to go that route, I think you'll like it.  I've never heard anyone say that it wasn't worth the money.

BTW if you can make 10k in sales in any three month period, you can get the feed for zero (0) bucks.  No you don't get a refund if you pay for it then make the 10k.   Grin

This didn't come out as clear as I meant it to:

Forget the three month period.  Make 10k $ in one month and get the feed free.

You might like to know that Shareasale has free datafeeds, and they have the capability of pointing a link at a specific page on a merchant site even if they don't have a feed.

LinkShare charges for their feed.  But, many of the good merchants offer a free datafeed outside of the network.  Grin

Great info, thanks.

I was thinking of joining SAS anyway, so I think now that I know they have a free feed that will push me to register.

That way I can see if I'm any good at promoting the feeds.

Just to clarify, is that $10k in sales or commissions?

I've been told it was commissions.

Thanks.

This is what it says on the CJ Performer link:

A publisher must have at least one CJ Marketplace account and have been paid at least $10,000 USD in commissions per month for the last three months to be eligible for CJ Performer(TM). This amount is based on aggregate commissions across all CJ Marketplace publisher accounts that are linked. If you do not meet these requirements, we recommend that you do not apply at this time. CJ Performer is currently available for publishers located in the United States and United Kingdom.

There is very little info about datafeeds that I have found on cj. I assume you have to be a performer to have access to them unless you pay the $200?

The CJ performer is different from the datafeed.  And, that's why I modified my post.

You can get the datafeed free if you have $10k of sales in one month.  Then just request the datafeed and you are set.

It is quicker just to pay the 200 bucks and get on with it.  You'll make it back.  Just like any other tool, how soon it pays back depends on your skills and market niche.

I'll see if I can find the link for any who are interested.

Thanks dink. I'd appreciate the link as I've been over $10K in sales.

There are easier ways of doing this with certain CJ affiliates, and you can match products to nearly any niche.

I've been planning to get the feed.

I reckon it it's worth th $200 in the long run, but I'd like it to be free if poss!

Check with your aff manager, Ty.  Some merchants have an external feed you can get for free.

And, never forget that how well you perform for a merchant will determine what you can get free (like upgrades to commish rates).

If the manager is any good, you can find out just what they want/need from you.  Then it's just a matter of getting it done.

However you go about it, the datafeed is a gold mine.
