My best performing aff told me to apply for the feed in the usual way, so I guess I ain't getting it free then  Cry

Here is how to do it for those who don't know:

CJ Data Feed Application

There is a $200 one-time set-up fee that will be required for access and deducted directly from your account balance. Below are the steps to gain access to the data feed:

Log into your account manager

* Click the "Contact Us" link.
* Click the "Go" link in the "Ask a Question" field.

On the screen that appears, input the following information:

* Select Category: Data Transfer (Publishers)
* Select Sub-Category: Product Catalog (Publishers)
* In the Subject line type: "Data Feed"

In the Question Field:

Enter your request for a data feed, and that you accept the on time $200
fee. In addition please answer the questions listed below:

(1)  In which format would you like to receive your data?
Choose from one of the following: TAB : CSV : PIPE : XML : EXCEL format.

(2) Which method of transfer would you like to use to receive your
product data?
Choose from one of the following: CJ FTP (you access our FTP servers) :
Client FTP (we access to your FTP servers to push the file(s) w/ any
login and password information needed for access) : HTTP (you access CJ
HTTP Web servers).

(3) Due to the size of data feeds, we ask that you limit your product
feed to five (5) advertisers. You may request additional advertisers be
added once you start generating revenue using your data feeds. Please
let us know which 5 advertisers that offer product catalogs you would
like included in your data feed?

Once we receive the answers to the questions above we will enable your
account to receive product data and send you technical documentation
that will assist your technical team in integrating this functionality.

This didn't come out as clear as I meant it to:
Quote
BTW if you can make 10k in sales in any three month period, you can get the feed for zero (0) bucks.
Forget the three month period.  Make 10k $ in one month and get the feed free.

exactly... Here's the reply

Quote from: CJ
If you have previously set-up a product catalog datafeed you will not be charged for any additional requests.

However, if your publisher account has not been configured to receive product catalogs from advertisers, a one-time $200 set-up fee is required and will be charged to your account. The $200 set-up fee will be waived if your account has earned at least $10,000 in advertiser sales revenue for one month during the past 12 Months.

I can confirm some merchants do publish a data feed outside the network, one in particular has a link to their datafeed in their monthly newsletter (worth subscribing to these IMHO).

I will also be contacting the affiliate managers of various companies directly to try to get access to their feeds if they have one.

Alternatively there is the CJ API which I have used before with some success (although it has a bit of a "shotgun" effect when you issue queries). I will be doing further work building some API tools in the near future I hope (product browser/comparer, etc.) so I'll keep you guys posted if you are interested. If I make some money soon (fingers crossed lol) I'll buy the feed anyway (it's only $200 after all).

Anyway, if you have any ideas for tools that access the API let me know. I'll prolly be working on separate ebay and amazon ones or maybe incorporating them all into the same app. Not sure if LS or SAS or any of the others have APIs but I'd say if they don't, they won't be far away.

I have thought of trying to develop a webpage plugin that uses the API that could go some way to replacing adsense ads, maybe even context sensitive.

Cheers,

Nice post matey thanks....

I'll second that.

Hey does anyone here think we could do some API stuff together as a community?

There are some definite possibilities there.

It has been a few months since I looked at the API.  I wasn't impressed with it at all.  It was as if it were in primary beta stages.  It may be better now.

One thing that is interesting (to me) is the possibility of having a central starting point on my server.  Then share out the various parts as needed to various niche sites.

The thing is....CJ is notorious for breaking shit and never getting around to telling us that it's broke.  Or worse, saying everything is A-OK when it obviously isn't.

With those two thoughts in mind, it may not be in our best interest to depend too much on the API being current, correct, and tracking correctly.

CJ has some real nice merchants.  But the CJ/ValueClick marriage lowered the standards in both neighborhoods.

There are rumors that CJ might be on the auction block.  Hmmmmm.  It was even rumored that the mighty Goooogle was looking at CJ.  I personally don't put much juice on that last one tho.

I'll poke around the API some more and report back.  Say in 6-8 months.   24

API stuff would be good!

Well, I just ponied up the $200 for the data feed.

So lets see what happens first, CJ actually get back to me with access details or Affearners get an API set up going  24

10,000 Brit pounds (aluminum) on the datafeed being light years ahead of anything remotely resembling an Affearners API.   DancingMango

Alright.  Who put that dancing green banana in my post?

Serious advice taken under advisement.

I forget who had the 'pickle sniffer' avatar.  It was kinda great.
