I keep hearing negative comments about Commision Junction and wondered exactly why that is?

I've used befree for travel websites in the past (expedia/travelocity), think it is a CJ subsidiary or something.  Only problem I had was the sloooowness of the payments.  Not sure if that was their fault though.

CJ is great when you dont know what you're looking for.
I was going to use them for some travel sites and then i realized that i could get even better payouts by going straight to IAN.com.

CJ is good for serving its purpose and giving access to the larger companies, but often the seasoned affiliates can go straight to the companies once they have a platform built to promote on.

This comment is head on.
CJ will supply you with a rather large list of large company affiliate programs, but sometimes going to the top is more beneficial.
In this theory, it is understandable why "seasoned affiliates" often go strait to the companies. Good Affiliates are contacted by them.

Expedia and Travelocity run their aff programs through CJ
Problem is it is the only option with a lot of companies, even pretty big ones. They just don't mess with it personally and outsource handling their aff programs software wise to CJ.

Through CJ/Expedia, I get $2/flight, $20/cruise, and like 2-5% of car rental/hotel purchase price.  Are there better payouts elsewhere (my visitors didn't seem to trust IAN.com for some reason)?  I hate it when I see a $1500 flight booked and my share is only $2.  .1% commission, baby!  Though I suppose that amount comes directly out of the angency booking fee of $5, so I suppose there isn't much moolah to go around.

Even as such seems very hard to justify the means of aquiring that customer.

If you can produce the volume sometimes skipping the ad network and partnering directly is the way to go.

CJ is a great big wonderful network.  Full of everything.  Including merchants that allow (even encourage) cookie stuffing, cookie overwriting, and other commission stealing practices.

CJ is now a wholly owned sub of ValueClick.  The advertising whore giant.  As such their (CJ) sole focus is on collecting as much commission as possible while at the same time mining the data stream for use by the mother ship.

The user interface at CJ is pretty good.  The consolidation of commissions is good.  The selection of merchants is great.  Customer service at CJ sucks.  The datafeed services are great.  I have gotten a check from CJ every month for the last four years.

Fully 45% of my affiliate income comes from CJ.  It's a love hate situation.

I don't know what they are up to right now but, I haven't been able to reach cj.com for three days now.  Embarrassed

That sucks big time.  I know I have sales, just don't know how many and from which merchant.

Your results may vary.

They have always been pretty good with me and I dont really have any complaints with them.

Only thing in the future will be the javascript linking which is a pain in the arse but always get my payments on time

I have been working with CJ for the last couple months, and while I have been making some nice cash, I have been struggling with the CJ API. I've downloaded their samples and read through their webservices stuff, but can't get it to work properly.

Can anyone lend any advice or scripts on getting the api datafeeds to function?

Thanks in advance!

What errors do you get?
Make sure that that the CJ url in the script is https://api.cj.com/wsd..... and not  .
Also keep in mind that they are for php5...
